With the recent rise in popularity for butter yellow interiors and peak mimosa season, what could be more joyous than exploring how to introduce the colour of sunshine? There aren’t many shades in the spectrum that can lift our mood quite as well as yellow. A dull space can be instantly brought to life with a splash of citrus, and as the colour of inquisitiveness, creativity and ingenuity, it can be just the right addition to your room.

Whether you love canary brights, muted mustards, rich golden tones or delicate pastels, there’s a yellow that works for your interior style. Read on to discover top tips for embracing this optimistic shade.

Which rooms work best with yellow?

Morgan sofa | @poursomecolouronme

Because yellow is such an upbeat and happy colour, it’s always best to use it in rooms where you want to add extra energy. However, yellow can quickly overwhelm the senses, so if you’re just beginning to experiment with this shade, start with smaller doses by introducing accessories, artwork or soft furnishings before moving on to walls or larger pieces of furniture.

Using yellow in the living room

In a living room, a bright yellow accent chair or sofa can inject a pop of colour, creating a striking contrast against dark wood furniture or adding warmth to cool-toned walls.

If you’re unsure about bright seating, accessorise a simple beige sofa with vibrant yellow cushions. Bring the look together with a yellow floor lamp and wall art that complements the colour palette, creating a cohesive interior scheme that’s filled with energy.

Inca corner sofa | @morkily

If you enjoy decorating with the seasons in mind, choose accessories that are easy to update, such as cushions, throws, candles, and vases in different yellow tones. Mustard shades add warmth in the autumn and winter months, while brighter yellows bring a sunny finishing touch in spring and summer.

Using yellow in a hallway

In an entranceway, bold yellow walls might feel too intense, or a lack of natural light could prevent this colour from reaching its full potential. Instead, keep the look subtle and airy by choosing some brightly coloured yellow flowers or unique lighting to create a warm welcome. This happy shade, even in small doses, is sure to bring a smile to everyone’s face!

Using yellow in the bedroom

When adding yellow into your bedroom, consider a statement wall colour or wallpaper, a bold headboard, or rich curtains to combine with softer shades to create an intriguing yet restful look that’s anything but boring.

Copenhagen chest of drawers | @renovating_wynd_house

A yellow accent chair, small sofa, or chaise can add a fun and engaging touch to a children’s bedroom, perfect for reading time. Draw on this lively shade for inspiration when selecting art to decorate the walls — tying the whole space together effortlessly.

Bevel bedside table | @myhomeat122

For a calming look, opt for tactile textiles, such as cushions or throws in your preferred shade of yellow to add a touch of vibrancy. Combine with more soothing, restful colours to keep the room relaxed for when you are ready to unwind.

Using yellow in the dining room

Dorset dining set | @acton.life.and.home

Brighten up your dining space with cheerful yellow accents that evoke warmth and positivity. Even something as simple as a vase filled with fresh daffodils or vibrant sunflowers can instantly lift the mood and create a welcoming atmosphere. Whether used as a centrepiece on your dining table or styled on a sideboard, yellow florals add a fresh and optimistic touch to the space.

Parquet dining table | @thelightshesees

For an inviting tablescape, take inspiration straight from the kitchen by incorporating food-themed elements that feel both stylish and fun. Lemon-inspired tableware is a popular choice, bringing vibrant pops of yellow that instantly energise the space. Pair citrus-printed napkins, plates, or even the real thing with blue or natural woven placemats for a touch of escapism. This citrus-inspired decor adds a playful charm, perfect for brunches, summer dinners, or simply brightening everyday meals.

How will you be using yellow in your home? We’d love to see! Share your snaps with us using #OakFurnitureland #GrowYourHome on Instagram. For more yellow interior inspiration, check out our blog post about Dulux colour of the year, True Joy.

Valentine’s Day at home might not be the grand, sweeping romance you imagined, or maybe you find the whole thing a bit cheesy and usually skip it. Either way, it’s the perfect opportunity to lean into love, embrace the traditions (with a twist), and make it a day to remember.

Sure, you might not be indulging in a Michelin-star meal or jetting off for a weekend escape, but with a little creativity and the right mindset, you can create an evening that celebrates what truly matters: the love you share with your partner.

Set the Scene

Dorset dining table | @acton.life.and.home

Valentine’s Day doesn’t just start at dinner – it’s a vibe you can create throughout the day. Add some romance to your space with warm, inviting touches: scented candles, wax melts, or a diffuser in your favourite fragrance. A vase of fresh red roses or pink tulips on your coffee table, console table or sideboard instantly sets the tone. Even a few pink or red accents around your home can bring a subtle, sophisticated romance.

Breakfast in bed

@livingwith_laura_j

Start the day by spoiling your partner with a proper breakfast in bed. Forget the burnt toast cliché and go all out – smashed avocado on sourdough, smoked salmon with scrambled eggs, or indulgent French toast with bacon and syrup. Oh, and don’t shy away from a morning mimosa or Bloody Mary as it’s a celebration, after all!

Cook a meal together

Parquet dining table | @26our_mini_mansion

A candlelit dinner isn’t off the table just because you’re staying in. Cooking something you both love can be just as fun and even more fulfilling. Try making fresh pasta from scratch, or visit the fishmonger for fresh seafood. It’s all about teamwork, laughter, and creating something delicious together.

Order in your favourite meal

Dorset dining table | @zetaantoniou

If cooking feels more like a chore than a treat, why not order from your favourite restaurant? Support local businesses and enjoy the luxury of being served — without the chaos of crowded tables or overpriced wine. Set the dining table beautifully, pop open a bottle of something special, and enjoy the best of dining out from the comfort of home.

Have a living room picnic

Newton coffee table | @livingwith_sienna

Who says picnics are just for parks? Spread out a rug or blanket in your living room, pile on some cushions, and create a cosy indoor picnic on your coffee table. Add fairy lights, soft throws, and your favourite flowers for a touch of extra magic.

Host a tasting session

Parquet small bookcase | @casaoldcorn

Love wine, gin, or craft beer? Bring the tasting room to you! Many distilleries, wineries, and breweries offer at-home tasting kits, often with virtual expert-led sessions. It’s a unique and interactive way to celebrate, and you might just discover your new top tipple!

Learn a new skill

Pottery, sushi-making, ballroom dancing — these are just some of the classes now available online. Get stuck into something fun and new, and who knows? You might just find a hobby you’ll both love long after Valentine’s Day is over.

Get creative with arts and crafts

Credit: RDNE Stock project

Channel your inner Picasso with a painting session. Grab some easels, paints, and brushes, and try painting portraits of each other. Whether the results are museum-worthy or hilariously bad, it’s bound to be a memory you’ll both treasure.

Indulge in a home spa

St Ives sideboard | @our_surreyhome

Set the mood with scented candles, relaxing bath oils, and indulgent face masks: pamper your partner with a budget-friendly spa day at home. Unwind with a soak in a steaming tub filled with fragrant bath bombs. Elevate the experience with thoughtful extras: a homemade afternoon tea complete with finger sandwiches, scones, and sweet treats, alongside chilled bubbly or fruit-infused water. Finish with chocolate-dipped strawberries and wrap yourselves in fluffy, freshly laundered towels for that final touch of spa-like bliss.

Play games together

Credit: SHVETS production

Whether you’re board game fanatics, trivia buffs, or just love a bit of Lego, games are a brilliant way to bond through some playful competition, and you’ve got an evening of laughs sorted. Just remember — no sore losers!

Relive your favourite memories

Romsey sideboard | @ourderbyshiredetached

Dig out the photo albums, wedding snaps and videos, or digital photo folders and take a trip down memory lane. You could even pick a few favourites to print and frame, or start a scrapbook of your journey together.

Take time to stargaze

Credit: Özgür Sürmeli

Escape the chaos of everyday life with a quiet moment outdoors. Wrap up warm, step into the garden, and enjoy the stars together. Add your ultimate slow song for a spontaneous dance or cosy up around a fire pit, toast marshmallows and dine out on s’mores under the night sky.

A virtual Valentine’s date

For couples who can’t be together in person, there are still ways to celebrate your relationship. Use video call backgrounds to transport yourselves to Paris or a tropical beach and theme your evening around the location. You can also take online classes, cook together via video call, or even paint each other’s portraits. It’s all about connection — even from afar.

From simple gestures to elaborate setups, what makes Valentine’s Day special is the thought behind it. No matter which idea you choose, your partner will appreciate the effort you’ve made to celebrate your love.

We’d love to see your Valentine’s creations! Don’t forget to tag us on Instagram using #OakFurnitureland to show off your romantic setups.

10 common mistakes when buying a sofa https://www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk/blog/general/common-mistakes-when-buying-a-sofa/ Tue, 15 Oct 2024 14:15:26 +0000 https://www.oakfurnitureland.co.uk/blog/?p=21818 Buying a large piece of furniture is always an investment, but when it’s something as pivotal to your domestic life as a comfy sofa, there is the added pressure for…

Buying a large piece of furniture is always an investment, but when it’s something as pivotal to your domestic life as a comfy sofa, there is the added pressure for it to be perfect because you use it every day.

Size, shape, number of seats, upholstery, quality and colour: what should you look for when buying a high-quality sofa? Well, here are 10 mistakes to avoid.

1. Impulse buying

Large grey modular corner sofa in a new build living room with a fireplace and elegant accessories.

Morgan modular 5-seat corner sofa | @homely_rose

No matter how good a sofa looks online, try to see it in person before making a commitment, if possible. It may be a different size than you thought, have more of an unusual shape than you’d imagined, or not be very comfortable at all. Even if you aren’t able to visit the store in person, you can arrange a video appointment to see it in a real-life setting or request some fabric swatches to compare with the rest of your living room furniture.

2. Not considering your lifestyle

Oak Furntureland Ashby sofa in neutral living room with pale green walls, cosy accessories and neutral details.

Ashby sofa | @ourruralnest

If this sofa is for decorative purposes and perhaps sits in a room that you don’t use much, then comfort might not be as important a factor as its look and aesthetic. However, if it sits in front of the TV, you’ll want one that is completely sinkable and optimised for lounging. Tall people, in particular, need to consider factors like the length of a settee and whether it leaves enough room for them to stretch out and relax.

3. Ignoring sofa construction

There are many pros and cons to consider for a couch that goes way beyond its placement in the room layout or the cushion colour. Before you begin to browse, think about whether you have a preference for foam or feather pillows and make a list of pros and cons based on your home life. For instance, you may have an allergy to feather fillings or require the orthopaedic benefits of foam technology. Either way, do your research about how your new sofa design is built, and you’ll never have a point of complaint.

4. Selecting the wrong upholstery material

Oak Furnitureland light green sofa and matching storage footstool in a light-filled garden room.

Dalby sofa | Dalby footstool | @mo_morshuis

Much like the way the settee is constructed, the upholstery material it’s made from will also need to suit your lifestyle and family needs. For example, if you have young children or pets, you may want to avoid fabric sofas, as they tend to soak up stains more easily than the smooth finish of a leather sofa. Or, if your living room can get hot and humid, avoid materials that lack airiness and tend to get sticky and unbreathable.

5. Not thinking about longevity

Ask yourself, how long will you need your couch for? If you think you’re likely to shake up your style in five years, opt for something ultra-trendy, like a modern sofa. However, if you think this will likely be a long-lasting investment, you might want to choose a more traditional sofa style that won’t look outdated over time.

6. Failing to measure properly

Inca sofa | @paintitprettyhome

Measure, measure and measure again! It’s all well and good if you think a sofa will look great in your home, but if it swallows up your space, it’ll leave you feeling claustrophobic and uncomfortable. Scale is key here. Width, depth and height are all really important measurements. To give you an idea of how a large or small sofa is going to look in your home, use tape to map out the exact dimensions on the floor, so you know what it’ll be like proportionately.

Take a look through our full living room measurement guide.

7. It can’t get through the door

You’ve done it: you’ve found the luxury sofa of your dreams and it fits your home layout! But wait – when it arrives, it can’t fit through your front door – nightmare! Always account for the access points of your home: your front door, hallway and any doorways or staircases that lead to your lounge. This is why the depth measurement is particularly key, it can help you work out if the settee needs to be tipped on its side to get through these access points. Alternatively, enquire which sofas are sold in compartments and can be assembled in your living room. Find out more about our sofa sizes.

8. You haven’t sized up your space

Evie corner sofa | @mybraxtonhome_

So you’ve ticked the boxes of floor space, height and the depth of the doorway, but will this sofa be right for your living room layout? Have you read the fine print – is the corner sofa that’s arriving left-handed or right-handed? Is there an alcove that needs to be accounted for (i.e. can a tall person sit there without knocking their head)? Will the coffee table fit in front of it while leaving space to walk around it? It pays to be ultra-precise and very picky about every detail.

9. The colour is all wrong

Willoughby corner sofa | @new_mummy_jess

Due to the prominence of the sofa in a living room scene, the colour you choose for your couch will depend on whether you want an understated or statement interior scheme. Go for a complementary colour for a blended look, something that pops in an otherwise neutral scene, or a bold shade in a more eclectic home. As mentioned, we recommend getting hold of fabric swatches because what looks great in the showroom might look completely different when immersed in your home setting.

10. It’s bad quality

Blue corner sofa in living room full of plants.

Evie corner sofa@insideeightyone

High-quality sofas are worth the investment for three reasons: they look fantastic, they feel fantastic and they will keep looking and feeling fantastic for years to come. Choose a brand you trust that puts care into its product design. For example, all our settees are built with hardwood in the frame, which not only makes for a more comfortable spot for our plump-free pillows to rest on, but also ensures they are built to last. Luxury sofas may seem more expensive initially, but they end up costing less in the long run.

It’s easy to see why people love the transition to warmer seasons – trees are bursting into life, flowers are in bloom, lambs are frolicking in fields and the days are finally getting lighter and longer. Moods seem instantly lifted with the welcoming of brighter skies, and new opportunities are hanging in the air, particularly when it comes to home decor.

If you’re ready to embrace the new season in your home, we’ve rounded up our favourite ways, both big and small, to brighten up your home ready for spring and the summer months ahead.

If you want to add personality to your home then artwork is one of the best ways to make an instant impact. When choosing your wall art, go for a statement piece that ties in with the other colours in your room, or team several prints in similar colour palettes to unify the look.

4. Add lighter accessories

You’ve watched your new home being built from the ground up. You’ve seen the plans and chosen the fixtures. Maybe you’ve even watched the foundations being poured or the roof finished. And now the waiting is finally over, it’s time to move in, decorate and furnish your home with some beautiful new furniture.

We know you want to start putting your own stamp on your new home right away but there are a few key decorating rules to keep in mind with new builds. We spoke to experts at the NHBC (National House Building Council), and several home construction companies to pull together everything you need to know about decorating a new build and what you should and shouldn’t do!

Your home needs time to settle

Mint green panelled living room with grey Evie sofa and monochrome art on the wall.

Evie sofa | @new_build_forever_home

With all the beautiful patterned wallpapers out there, we understand why this might be on your decorating agenda, but builders recommend leaving 6-12 months between when you move in and wallpapering.

This is because new building materials, such as the timber in the walls and fresh plaster need time to dry out and it’s best if they dry out slowly. As your walls dry, you may notice small cracks forming. This is totally normal, but it may damage wallpaper, and if any additional work needs to be done by your building company, such as fixing any problems that may occur, that would also spell the end of that lovely new printed wall.

There are ways you can minimise cracking and movement from the drying process though. Try to be sparing with the central heating during your first winter in the house to allow walls and joinery to naturally expand and contract with the seasons, and open the air vents in your windows to keep a gentle flow of fresh air.

And, if you just can’t stand your white walls, you can always reach for the paint. As long as you use breathable paint, like a matt emulsion, this will not affect the drying process. Just remember to keep some paint saved for touch-ups if required.

From the floor to the ceiling

Oak Furnitureland Parquet chest of drawers in a living room with a cream accent chair and houseplants.

Parquet chest of drawers | @709_design

Painting your skirting boards? Remember that new woodwork tends to absorb a lot of paint or stain, so don’t be alarmed if your first painting doesn’t give as good a finish as you were expecting. As your home settles, later decoration will have a more even and weathered surface to take the paint and stain better. But when you do paint it, make sure you have a clean and properly prepared surface that is totally dry to start with. This will help to keep it looking its best.

And a top tip for ceilings; many new builds have a plastic compound finish which should never be sanded or washed. So if you want to embrace the painted ceilings trends, lightly brush the surface to remove any dust or cobwebs, and then you will be able to paint it gently with a few coats of emulsion to create a custom look.

Tackle the big jobs first

Neutral kitchen with Oak Furnitureland dining table and cream upholstered scroll back chairs.

Scroll back dining chairs | @amy.elizabeth.home

While it might be tempting to start with a simple job first, if you begin decorating your new home with the tougher, messier jobs, like a kitchen update, you could be saving yourself lots of hassle in the longer term. You wouldn’t want someone treading tile grout through your freshly decorated living room, or scratching a newly painted wall while bringing in a new fridge.

Perhaps consider doing garden work before laying your carpets. Newly built gardens tend to have more dirt than grass, and bringing in the patio pavers now stops them from staining a beautiful new rug!

Tackle those messy and more difficult tasks first. Then, your lovely decorated rooms are more likely to stay that way for longer!

Expect the unexpected

Oak Furnitureland Parquet desk in a peaceful home office with houseplants.

Parquet desk | @hannahcoates.design

Be diligent with your snag list, and remember, sometimes, even the professionals get it wrong. If there is something not right in your new home, and your building company needs to make a repair, they won’t redo any of the decorative work that you have done. Sometimes it’s best to wait a few months to try and uncover any hidden problems.

Additionally, before you drill into your new walls, make sure you know what’s behind them. You don’t want to puncture a cable or damage any electrical work you can’t see. You can help to establish the exact position of cables that are inside walls and flooring with a cable detector to help safeguard you from hapless DIY disasters.

What can you do to decorate a new build?

Sage green bedroom featuring the Oak Furnitureland Romsey wardrobe.

Romsey triple wardrobe | @insideours

As it turns out, quite a lot! There’s no need to put up with an empty white box while you wait for your new build home to properly settle (unless that’s your personal style!). There are plenty of decorative tasks that you can tackle straight away to help your house feel like a home.

Window dressing is a big one. Blinds and curtains are not only a great way to regulate temperature and add privacy to your space, but they’re also perfect for adding a bit of personality. There are lots of stunning styles available; velvet drapery adds a luxe feel, while a brightly patterned print can add a modern twist to a room.

Throw rugs are another fantastic way to add colour and softness to a room, and they have the added benefit of being easy to move if work needs to be done. Scatter cushions and blankets can all add that bit of wow factor to a room.

If you know you’re going to be painting or wallpapering a room in the future, or don’t want to put holes in the wall, but love art, Command hooks are a lifesaver. Sticking to walls with a gentle adhesive, they won’t damage plaster or paintwork, and they allow art to be quickly rearranged to your changing tastes, making them perfect in teen rooms for example!

Once the decorating is done, now’s the time to pick your furniture. Oak Furnitureland has pieces for the whole home, designed with longevity in mind and made from quality hardwood and upholstery. Whether you’re looking for a sofa to complete your living room, a bed to finish your sleep sanctuary or a desk for your home office, we’ve got it all.

Light, airy, fresh and calming, duck egg blue is a classic shade that’s a timeless choice when it comes to home interiors. Whether you love a bit of country cottage, rustic, traditional or contemporary design, this colour works with just about any style.

While duck egg blue is a year-round favourite, it leads the pack as one of spring’s favourite hues. Read on to discover different ways to incorporate this peaceful shade into your home decor.

Combining duck egg blue with similar shades is one of the most effective ways of using this colour when styling your home or choosing your decor. Delicate greens or turquoise tones work particularly well with this shade, creating a tranquil look that’s perfect for your living room or bedroom. Or opt to team with inky blues for a more dramatic look that’s still tranquil enough for a bedroom.

It also contrasts beautifully with rose pink for decor that radiates pastel perfection. If you’re wary of going overboard on this pastel pairing, opt for subtle touches in accessories such as lamps, artwork or picture frames.

Not only is a sofa a stylish focal point for your living room, but it’s also a cosy corner for a catch-up with friends, a place to enjoy movie nights with all the family, and a spot for quiet moments at the end of a long day.

Our sofas are designed with real homes in mind and are built to last. We understand that quality, comfort, style and value are important when choosing a sofa and our designs all combine these essentials.

If you’re struggling to find the right sofa or need some help with your decor, discover easy ways to incorporate that all-important piece of furniture into your home.

Embrace neutral style

Create a blissfully beautiful backdrop for family movie marathons with our Willoughby corner sofa. The neutral colour palette brings understated luxe to the space, while the pillow-back design ensures maximum comfort.

Introduce subtle pink touches

Pale pink accent cushions and dusky pink decorative details are a perfect match for the warm neutral tones of the Evie sofa. Choose cushions in different textures such as silk or velvet to add a pleasingly tactile contrast.

Modern boho style

Bring a touch of global style to your living room with modern boho-inspired decorative accents. Our Bridgeport sofa is the perfect anchor for this look thanks to its tactile upholstery and warm neutral palette.

Magical monochrome

Monochrome interiors can often feel stark but this homely living room setup shows that it can be the opposite. Use warm whites and creams to soften the look against black furniture and accessories and make sure to add different textures.

Up the cosy factor

Throws are the easiest way to create the cosiest of living rooms in a flash. Opt for faux fur styles during the colder months, and even go for an electric heated option for extra warmth, and swap for more lightweight fabrics over the summer.

Anchor with a rug

Not only do they add texture, but rugs are also perfect for bringing furniture together to create a cohesive living room look. Go for as large a size as the space and your budget allow and make sure you place under sofas and furniture to avoid having a rug island.

Accent with colourful accessories

Gainsborough sofa | @apogee_interiors

Transform a simple living room with brightly coloured accessories for an eclectic look. A gallery wall above a sofa is an easy way to introduce personality, colours and textures to your living space.

Master neutrality

Jasmine sofa | @ouramberleyhome

A neutral sofa is a hard-working basic that looks at home in any decor. Use artwork with pops of colour to add interest to otherwise simple rooms, with plants and accessories also ideal for bringing colour and texture to the space.

Pair with a coffee table

Armchairs are a popular choice for cosy corners as they can slot into vacant spaces in open-plan kitchens, conservatories, home offices or even spacious landings. We have a wide choice of colours and styles, with loveseats ideal if you want an extra roomy seat to curl up on with your latest read.

Oak has always had a timeless quality about it and it’s one of the many reasons we’re passionate about it at Oak Furnitureland. It has the ability to marry with nearly any style and its natural attributes mean it can work with almost every colour scheme.

Whether your style is bold and dramatic or elegant and subtle, steeped in period details or on the cutting edge of contemporary design, you can find a colour that works beautifully with our oak furniture and painted ranges with oak tops.

If you’re struggling to grasp which colours to team with your oak furniture, read on for plenty of ideas and real homes to inspire you.

Consider oak’s undertones

Romsey chest of drawers | @athomewithellesmith

Let’s first look at oak as a natural product. More often than not, oak furniture will have warm undertones, from subtle reddish hues to deeper yellow tones.

Stain colours will affect the final look and so darker shades tend to deepen those undertones, bringing out the reddish quality of oak. While paler and more natural waxes tend to bring out tinges of yellow or orange. Either way, you’re working with a warmer undertone.

When pairing this warmth with other colours, you have two very different choices. By working with similar undertones, you’ll be bringing out the natural warmth of wood. By contrasting it with cooler undertones, you’ll be creating more contrast in your space.

Saturation plays a role as well. From deep, dramatic shades to bold brights, soft neutrals and subtle pastels, each brings with it a chance to bring out oak’s best qualities. Here are some ideas to recreate in your own home:

Dramatic contrasts

For those who like their furniture to stand out, consider choosing an opaque colour to go with your oak furniture. Natural textures look beautiful against a backdrop of darker shades such as aubergine, navy or forest green.

If you don’t want to commit to painting your walls, choose bold accessories to add a bit of contrast, or opt for our darker painted ranges with natural or rustic oak tops to introduce statement colour in your furniture.

Soft neutrals

Dorset dining table | @thehouseofmatilda

If you prefer a subtler approach, look for colours that share similar earthy undertones with your oak furniture. Warmer beiges and taupe shades will allow your pieces to blend in, making your room appear larger and more open.

Use accessories to provide texture and subtle contrast to ensure the room still has character. Woven baskets, knotted rugs and knitted fabrics will add depth to a neutral scheme without taking away from a softer look.

Bold and bright

Parquet bedside table | @aliceincolour

When working with bold colour, oak furniture can be a perfect pairing. While darker shades will give a room a cosy vibe, more saturated hues create energy and life in a space.

Colours like cherry red, ochre yellow, lime green or rusty orange will bring out those warm hues in oak for a zesty palette that warms up a space. With cooler brights like vivid blue, deep teal or raspberry reds, oak will add warmth to these spaces, balancing out the cooler palette and grounding the overall look.

Pastel perfection

 Original Rustic coffee table

Natural, light oak finishes blend beautifully with pastel shades to create a relaxed and airy feel in your home. Introduce decorative details in delicate pinks, yellows and duck egg blues to add subtle colour that brings grown-up style to any room.

If you’re looking for more contrast with your pastel tones or want to give your space a more traditional feel, then rustic and deeper oak finishes are perfect for you.

Monochrome magic

Bevel bedside table | @ourhomeine4

Crisp white walls teamed with oak furniture creates the perfect balance of contemporary style. Adding warmth to an otherwise stark scheme, the pairing works particularly well when accented with black accessories, such as throws, candles, and artwork, to give a subtle nod to monochrome palettes.

Hopefully this has given you plenty of scope to start your decor journey. Discover our full ranges of natural oak and rustic oak furniture to find the perfect piece for your home.

OWe know how important the in-store shopping experience is for our customers so we wanted to make it even better and have revamped five of our showrooms to offer inspiration to help you find the perfect furniture and accessories for your home. The redesigned showrooms include Cheltenham, Farnborough, Speke, Wednesbury, and York.

What to expect from the updated showrooms

The stores’ interiors have undergone makeovers to inspire customers with styled roomsets that create the look and feel of real homes, and feature soft furnishings and accessories as finishing touches, with beds made up with luxe bedding from beddable. The new inspiration areas display complementary mixes of our hardwood furniture ranges, covering living rooms, dining rooms, bedrooms and home offices, along with sofas and armchairs.

Jeremy Baxter, Head of Creative at Oak Furnitureland, said: “Our redesigned showrooms have been carefully developed to bring our furniture to life in an authentic way that our customers can relate to. We’ve created dedicated areas in our atrium that mix and match different combinations of our furniture and accessories, which is a first for us, but something we all tend to do in our own homes.

“We’ve ensured there’s a nice balance of our painted, natural and rustic finish cabinetry, in traditional and contemporary looks, and we’ve styled with bedding, cushions, curtains, plants and accessories to create an inspirational home look. We’ll also be sharing style advice on how customers can mix and match our ranges themselves.”

An enhanced shopping experience

We’ve also launched a brand new app, available on Apple and Android, alongside introducing QR codes that are displayed throughout our updated showrooms. This enables customers to find out more information about the products and add them to their wishlist in the app while browsing in store.

It’s the perfect partner for an enhanced shopping experience that offers you the ability to save your favourites and easily view them again when at home. You can then tap into our handy Augmented Reality function to see how our sofas and cabinetry fit into your homes.

We can’t wait to welcome you to our redesigned showrooms. And, if you’re looking for more interiors inspiration, head to our Instagram where you can see how our customers have styled their Oak Furnitureland pieces.
